Shared transportation runs, which maximize the use of drivers, attendants and routing systems, reduce the overall cost of transportation for districts and provide some relief to the bus driver shortage that many school districts are facing.
This service provides participating districts with home-to-school routing support for field trips and sports transportation for students attending their schools, as well as those attending nonpublic (parochial/private and special education) schools. This is in accordance with New York State Education Law Section 3635.
- Students will be transported using district-owned buses.
- The initial focus is on out-of-district bus runs to private, parochial, special education and Career and Technical (CTE) school sites.
- In some cases, BOCES may hire bus drivers to transport students from home to school, field trips sports trips, special education runs and parochial/private school runs.
