While the song says that summertime means easy livin’, at BOCES it’s also the season of meaningful learning for students of all ages.
Career & Technical School Cosmetology Summer Program
More than 50 cosmetology students spent a month at the Career & Technical School’s (CTE) Albany and Schoharie campuses upping their professional game and practicing the skills they will need to graduate with their professional licensing. Along the way, they had a chance to learn from those in the industry—including 2015 CTE alumna Chantel Urban (pictured above left), who now applies the skills she learned during her CTE years when creating flawless makeup for those on runways, in theaters and film.
SEMI High Tech U Nanoscale Technology Camp
At our ninth annual SEMI High Tech U, Capital Region students came together in late July for a week of hands-on learning about nanotechnology at high-tech industries such as Tec-Smart/Global Foundries and area universities including Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) and the SUNY Poly College of Nanoscale Sciences.
Extended School Year (ESY) Summer Services
Throughout our schools, lessons designed to keep skills sharp are mixed with a bit of fun and sun for students attending our Extended School Year programs.
Skills and Workforce Development for Adult Learners
Adult learners are hard at work earning their high school diplomas and improving their English language skills. More than 60 students from these programs will celebrate their accomplishments with a graduation ceremony later this summer.
Workshops and Trainings for Educators
Google and other educational tech bootcamps, leadership training and support, and the sharing of best practices around topics as such as student mental health and trauma in schools are just a few of the many diverse trainings and professional development offerings educators and others are taking part in here this summer.
