Capital Region BOCES is offering two courses this fall for adult students interested in reimagining their futures with careers in the electrical trades, heating and cooling or welding industries.
BOCES will offer a Residential Electrical course and a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) course at its Career and Technical Education Center – Albany Campus. The facility is located at 925B Watervliet-Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12205.

The 150-hour Residential Electrical course will teach students the basics of residential work. Taught by experienced electricians, the course will provide adults with fundamental skills in residential electrical theory, safety, construction codes, low-voltage wiring, switches and controls and currents.
A Commercial Electric course will begin in February and tie in to the education students receive in the Residential Electric program if they choose to continue their education at BOCES.
According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for electricians is high with a 6% growth in enrollment forecast over the next decade.
The course will run Mondays and Tuesdays, from 4:15 p.m. until 8:45 p.m.
The 450-hour HVAC/R course will be offered this fall for adult students interested in preparing for careers in an industry that projects 5% growth in new jobs through 2031 and a median salary is the U.S. of $48,630 per year.
Students learn in a state-of-the art classroom about heating, ventilation, piping, refrigerants and refrigeration, furnaces, and boilers. They earn the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 608 Certification and the Corrugated Stainless-Steel Tubing (CSST) Certification.
The course will run Tuesdays through Thursdays, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
