A Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School graduate with a passion for canines is the recipient of The 2024 William Kress Memorial Humanitarian Award.
Neveah Turner, a Pet Tech program graduate, was presented the scholarship during the June 6 Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center – Albany Campus Awards Ceremony by Diane Ogren, guidance secretary.
Ogren is the mother of William Kress, a 2015 graduate of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Tech program. The award is presented annually to a Capital Region BOCES student who is supportive to friends and acquaintances who need someone to listen to in tough times and someone who is kind and loving.
“I chose Neveah for this award because of her willingness to assist other classmates as well as her positive attitude, overall kindness and compassion for the animals that she works with,” said Ogren. “She has overcome challenges and has still found a way to pursue her dreams.”
Earlier this month, Turner completed the Pet Tech program with the skills to pursue her dream of training and grooming animals.
She plans to work as a groomer and eventually go to college.
“I am going to make money as a groomer and then go to SUNY Schenectady for business. I want to eventually start my own dog-grooming business,” she said.
She said working with dogs is her passion because “every time you have a bad day, the dogs know it and give you hug.”
