A pair of high school juniors at Capital Region BOCES are preparing for careers in military medicine thanks to the Career & Technical Education Center’s Two-Year Sequence of Health Careers program.
Elizabeth Masi and Logan Semeiks recently practiced their newly learned skills in changing the sheets of an occupied bed during class at CTE’s Albany Campus.
The duo both said chose the program because they plan to enter the military after graduation and want careers in medicine.
“My mom is a nurse and I want to go into the Air Force and become a nurse as well,” said Masi, who attends BOCES from Schalmont.
Meanwhile, Semeiks’ aspirations will keep hm on the ground.
“I want to go into the Army and become a combat medic,” the Bethlehem teen said. “This program will give me some knowledge that I can use to achieve that goal.”
Students in the Two-Year Sequence of Health Careers program learn basic health care skills necessary while preparing to earn certification as a Nurse Assistant (NA), Home Health Aide (HHA) and Personal Care Aide (PCA).
There are 84 students currently enrolled in the program, which is offered on both the Albany and Schoharie campuses.
