Capital Region BOCES’ Career & Technical Education students recently competed in regional SkillsUSA competitions and advanced to the statewide competition in Syracuse.
Congrats to the dozen SkillsUSA New York State Champions and medalists from the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education Center – Albany and Schoharie campuses!
State champions in the CSI contest are Criminal Justice students Rhiannon Islip from Sharon Springs, Jeffrey Caron from Berne-Knox-Westerlo, and Mason Welch from Duanesburg; State champion in the Precision Heavy Equipment Operations contest is Construction/Heavy Equipment student Justice Ebert from Schoharie and State Champion in the Esthetics contest is Cosmetology student Olivia Harris from Mohonasen and model Madison Davern from Ravena.
Also earning medals from Capital Region BOCES were:
- Second place finishers: Game Design & Implementation students Tyler Furgason, Schenectady, and Vincent Unser Schalmont, in the Interactive Application Video contest, and Culinary Arts student Emily Tice, Guilderland, in the Baking and Pastry Arts contest.
- Third place finishers included Two-Year Sequence of Health Careers student Riley Fisher, Guilderland, in the Basic Health Care Skills contest, Cosmetology student Ruby Sutphin, Shenendehowa, in the Job Skill Demo, Building Trades student Elijah Edwards, Schenectady, in the Job Skill Demo Open contest and Manufacturing student Jackson Stone, Guilderland, in the CNC 3 Axis Milling contest.
Nearly 70 students from 19 area school districts represented Capital Region BOCES during the statewide competition that was from April 26 to 28.
The students, who hail from as diverse districts as Schenectady and Sharon Springs, Cobleskill-Richmondville and Watervliet, competed in events that highlighted their work-related skills. The competition was held at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. Winners from the event will advance to the national SkillsUSA competition in June.
