Fingerprinting/Criminal History Records Clearance

Required for Substitute Teachers, Teacher Assistants and Nurses

The information below is from the OSPRA Web site and is meant to provide information for substitute teaching applicants for the Capital Region BOCES Substitute Registry serving BOCES and the districts of Bethlehem, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Cobleskill-Richmondville, Cohoes, Duanesburg, Green Island, Guilderland, Menands, Mohonasen, Niskayuna, North Colonie (Jr. High & HS), Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, Schalmont, Schenectady, Scotia-Glenville, South Colonie, Voorheesville and Watervliet.

Effective July 1, 2001, Sections 305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035 of the Education Law, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioner's Regulations, the Commissioner of Education requires a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants.

Fingerprints are processed by the Commissioner of Education through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

If you do not have clearance for employment in the NYS Education Department TEACH fingerprint database, you must fulfill this requirement by:

arrow bulletStart the fingerprint process online by registering and paying for your fingerprints for TEACH on the NYS Education Department Web site.

arrow bulletNext, call Sally Loeper at Capital Region BOCES at (518) 464-5120. She will give you further instructions about the fingerprint process, but note, you must provide at your fingerprint appointment a $28 money order made payable to Capital Region BOCES for the BOCES fingerprint processing fee.
