Career & Tech, Alt Ed students and staff take part in American Graduate Town Meeting
Event will air on WMHT-TV on Nov. 17 at 9 p.m. [View the Town Meeting ]
The Capital Region Career & Technical School and our Alternative Education (alt. Ed.) program were well represented at WMHT-TV's American Graduate Town Meeting, a community forum held at the television station's studios the evening of Nov. 10 and scheduled for broadcast on Nov. 17 at 9 p.m.
The American Graduate project is a grant-funded effort to bring together people from our region who care about students, want them to stay in school, and can offer ideas on how they can succeed. Career and Technical Education Executive Principal Terry Swett participated in discussions and planning meetings for the Town Meeting.
The Town Meeting featured a panel of experts on education, moderated by WNYT-TV's Elaine Houston. Participating from the Capital Region Career & Technical School were Alt. Ed. and Integrated English teacher Erica Dow, Alt. Ed. and Cosmetology student Devin Wilson, Culinary Arts/Food Services teacher and Career & Tech and Alt. Ed. alumnus Scott Cooper, Food Services student Zack Schaffer, Food Services alumnus Casey Parker, and Communications Coordinator Monique Jacobs.
It is not uncommon for students to tell us that their positive experiences at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School kept them in school and inspired them to move forward with their lives. Learning a career, working hands-on, having a fresh start, meeting students from other schools, sharing experiences with their peers, learning in smaller classes - all are factors cited by successful students in our Career & Tech Ed. and Alt. Ed. programs.
