Health Careers Center for Adults at the Capital Region Career & Technical School

 

Class picDemand for healthcare professionals is skyrocketing thanks to the aging of the baby boom generation.

Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School offers a multitude of training opportunities to prepare adults for those jobs and others in the healthcare industry.

From adult practical nursing to home health aid to sterile processing technicians, Capital Region BOCES can get you there!  For a complete mission statement, click here.

All of the programs in the health-related professions are offered for adult students at Career & Techs Albany campus, 1015 Watervliet-Shaker Road.

Programs

Adult Practical Nursing classes offered

One of the fastest growing and highest demand jobs in the nation, nursing is the career of ambitious men and women looking for a challenge with many rewards. The state-approved 
Practical Nursing Program at the Capital Region Career & Technical School, offered just for adult
students, encompasses 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical study and practice. Upon completion,
students are eligible to take the NCLEX Practical Nursing examination for licensure to become
Licensed Practical Nurses

**Please take note that while there may be some financial aid available for certain individuals for adult programs at Capital Region BOCES, none of the courses or programs are covered under Gov. Cuomo's free college tuition program (The Excelsior Scholarship/Program).* 

Sterile Processing Technician

Sterile Processing Technicians are on the front lines in the war against germs and are
essential in keeping healthcare environments safe for patients. These technicians decontaminate, inspect, package and sterilize equipment and devices used in the healthcare environment.

Personal Care Aide/Home Health Aide/Adult Nurse Assistant
(PCA/HHA/NA)
program for Adult Students

The Capital Region Career & Technical School offers a separate Personal Care Aide/Home Health Aide/Adult Nurse Assistant (PCA/HHA/NA) Program for Adult Students, with schedules and locations suited to their particular needs. Students learn total patient care in both the classroom and through off-campus, supervised clinical experiences. Students prepare for the state-approved Personal Care Aide and Home Health Aide examinations, as well as the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant examination. Certification qualifies them to work in home, nursing home and assisted living settings.

CPR for the Healthcare Provider

Capital Region BOCES offers CPR American Heart Association for the Care Provider Certification.

Classes are offered the first Tuesday of every month through November, 2017:

  • 9 a.m to 2 p.m. for the day time session
  • 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the evening session 

 

Certification is good for two years. The cost of the class is $65 which is due at registration.

A minimum of six registrants is needed for the class to run.
